  7.     TechPlot is built around Polysoft's
  8. GraphVision graphical user interface
  9. (GUI).  It is completely in graphics mode
  10. and obeys the common Microsoft Windows
  11. GUI conventions. 
  12.  
  13.     On your screen, there are three
  14. visible components of GraphVision: the
  15. menu bar at the top, the window area in
  16. the middle, and the status line at the
  17. bottom.  Many menu items also offer
  18. dialog boxes.  Before we describe each
  19. menu item in the program, we will explain
  20. these generic GraphVision components.

  23. █  The menu bar and menus
  24.  
  25.     The menu bar lists the available
  26. menus.  A menu contains a list of commands
  27. or actions that you can carry out with
  28. TechPlot.  In TechPlot, there are three
  29. views.  All of them have a File menu and a
  30. Help menu in addition to their own menu
  31. system.

  33. █  Basic actions
  34.  
  35.     All TechPlot commands are listed on
  36. menus.  You select (highlight) a menu and
  37. then choose a command from that menu to
  38. carry out an action.  You can access menus
  39. either from the Keyboard or from a Mouse.

  41.   ■ Selecting  a menu
  42.  
  43.     If you have a mouse, use the mouse
  44.   pointer to point to the name of the menu
  45.   on the menu bar, and click the mouse
  46.   button.  This opens the menu.  To move
  47.   directly to a menu item, you can drag
  48.   the selection cursor down the menu until
  49.   the menu item is highlighted, and then
  50.   release the mouse button.

  52.     From keyboard, you first press <Alt>
  53.   or <F10> to select (highlight) the menu
  54.   bar, then use the arrow keys to move the
  55.   highlight to a menu you want.  Press
  56.   <Enter> to open the selected menu.

  58.     Note:  If a name in the menu bar has
  59.   an underlined letter, you can press <Alt>
  60.   and type that letter to open the menu.
  61.   For example, to open the File Menu, you
  62.   press <Alt-F>.

  64.   ■ Closing  a menu
  65.  
  66.     To close a menu, click the menu name or
  67.   click anywhere outside the menu or press
  68.   <Esc>.

  70.   ■ Choosing a menu command
  71.  
  72.     To choose a command from a menu, you can
  73.   use a mouse or press a key combination.
  74.   To choose menu commands using a mouse,
  75.   point to the menu bar and drag to a menu
  76.   item you want to select, and then click
  77.   the mouse button.  You can also use the
  78.   keyboard to choose commands.  Type the
  79.   letter that is underline in the menu and
  80.   press <Enter>.  Then use the arrow keys
  81.   to move highlight until you reach the
  82.   item you want to select, and then press
  83.   <Enter>.
